Be Prepared for Miracles
There is no question that luck played a part in yesterday’s stunningly well-executed emergency landing of U.S. Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson River and the safe evacuation of all passengers and crew aboard the plane well before it sank into the frigid waters.
But you know what they say about luck: It’s what happens when preparation meets opportunity. If you want to know the source of that preparation, Marcy Wheeler has one word for you: unions.
They’re calling it a miracle–the successful landing of a US Airways jet in the Hudson and subsequent rescue of all 155 passengers. They’re detailing the heroism of all involved, starting with the pilot and including cabin crew, ferry crews, and first responders. What they’re not telling you is that just about every single one of these heros is a union member.
