How Dry Is It ?
We live about 25 miles north of Dayton, Ohio, west of I-75. We seem to be having August weather on the first day of summer.
So far in June we’ve had .87” rain. Far too little. A good portion of the back yard is brown, especially that part of the yard with the least amount of shade. It is so bad that even some of the weeds are curling up & hopefully dieing.
And May was just as bad – very little rain.
I have instituted a vigorous watering routine. We have a well, so the cost of watering is just the electricity needed to get the water out of the well. The positive effects of the watering could be seen on the Sweet William with all the new growth about a week after I began watering heavily. The lilies, other garden phlox and cone flowers showed immediate results also.
Lillies in top pic and farther down the fence, cone flowers.
