Paul Simon’s Friend Alan Simpson

Paul Simon was a U.S. Senator from Illinois for many years.  When he decided to retire, his hand-picked successor is now the Majority Whip, Senator Dick Durbin.

Maybe it was a case of the Senate being more collegial when Senator Simon served.  I don’t know.  But Senator Simon and Senator Alan Simpson (R – Wyoming) were very good friends.  Such good friends that at the memorial service for Paul Simon, after his death, the now-retired Alan Simpson was the only peer of Paul Simons to be invited to speak at the service.

I suspect that Paul Simon has rolled over in his grave when he heard his old friend say this the day before Thanksgiving

“We had the greatest generation,” Simpson said. “I think this is the greediest generation.”

RawStory has this story which makes it hard to understand how a formerly moderate Republican can sound as if he is consumed with hate for the people that made this country great during last half of the 20th century.
