Andrea Mitchell

This piece at HuffPo about Andrea Mitchell announcing that she has breast cancer.  Obviously, I wish her the absolute best of all possible outcomes.

“I had planned to be hiking in Wyoming last week but instead discovered that I am now among the one in eight women — incredibly, one in eight — who’ve had breast cancer,” she said.

What is scary is the 1 in 8 that she tosses out.  That is 12% of the women in the country.

First, if that was a “mens” cancer (yes, I am aware that about 5% of breast cancers occur in men), there would have been tons of money poured into finding a solution.

Second, I recall listening to an interview on NPR with a female oncologist.  The doctor said that a hundred years ago, breast cancer was unheard of.

What are we doing wrong?
