I Am Confused
Read this at HuffPo and then come back and read why I am confused.
Here is the text of the first amendment to the U.S. Constitution as found at Wikipedia:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Nobody, absolutely no one has the right to tell any person what, if anything to believe. If any institution, say a corporation or a church-affiliated entity, has to provide birth control coverage, that does not mean that anyone has to take advantage of that coverage. If a person is a devout believer, no one will make that person take any type of birth control. That is an individual choice.
But Notre Dame University has a large hospital as part of their medical school. By not wanting to provide women’s health services to its’ employees, Notre Dame is trying to impose its’ religious beliefs on all the employees at the hospital.
Simply put, this is wrong. No employer should be allowed to impose their beliefs on their employees.
