First off, I want to echo W. Kamau Bell on Up with Chris Hayes on 25 Aug re: Abortion. Paraphrasing, he said, “Men should shut up on the issue.”
I have felt that way along time, but do realize that men vote and control legislatures and state houses.
First, I believe that what ever a pregnant lady does is between herself and her self. She makes her own mind up.
So, I will say that with all the talk about Rep. Todd Akin’s ignorant remarks there is an aspect of the issue that no one has mentioned.
No one has mentioned about lethal chromosomal birth defects such as Tay-Sachs. I cannot imagine the pain, grief that a mother must feel when she discovers her child has a fatal birth defect for which there is no known cure.
In my opinion, we are too advanced a society to force anybody, mother or father, to go through the heart break of watching a 3-year old die of Tay-Sachs or some other fatal birth defect.
That is a choice that must always be available to a prospective mother when the results of an amniocentesis are available.
