There are a lot of things to be thankful for this 4th Thursday in November, the traditional Thanksgiving that has been handed down to us by our fore fathers.
I am thankful that Barack Obama will be inaugurated, again on 20 Jan 2013. I am thankful that Sherrod Brown will be returning to the Senate. I am thankful that Elizabeth Warren will be joining the Senate. These are very good things that will have a positive impact on millions of my fellow citizens.
But I am real thankful for two other things.
First, I am thankful for my wife of 51 years. We’ve endured some hardships and seen some joyous times. The vows said “in sickness and in health.” And thru heart attacks and bypasses, quitting smoking (both of us) and breaking bones, we have come out stronger and more oriented towards the future.
The other thing is “friends.” I am not talking about acquaintances. I am talking about a person that will be there for you when you need, when you truly need help and they can provide it.
We have four friends. Not bad for two geezers beginning their eighth decade. Two of these friends are off the grid. They have a nice cabin deep in the woods where even a cell phone will not work. The other two are with their respective families.
Only one cares about politics and reads this blog, but I know at least two of them voted for the President.
Mrs. Chief and I are truly fortunate to have four solid friends.
