The Politician – Obama

I’ve heard it said that politics is the art of the possible. I surely would love to see the FISA bill before the Senate defeated. Telecom immunity is a mistake. But this bill, as noted at FireDogLake, will pass.

I would love to see Senator Obama take the lead on the effort to defeat the FISA bill. But that is not going to happen either as noted here at TPM.

But, we must remember that first sentence above. Apparently, Senator Obama feels that there is too much political risk to take a stand. Carrie Brown at The Politico has this to say.

I wonder how many people believe this

But with his support of a government surveillance bill that offers retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies — a bill that he vowed last year to filibuster — the honeymoon has ended.

The bottom line is that I would love to see Senator Obama inaugurated next January 20th. If taking a ‘talking point’ away from the traitorous, right-wing whack jobs in order to help ensure his election, then I have no quarrel with the Senator.
